022. During her pregnancy, Lily took to talking to Harry as though he were already there, telling him stories about Hogwarts, talking about the members of the Order, or even just commenting on the weather. James picked up this habit as well, and both parents continued to talk to Harry about nearly everything after he was born.

It’s a pity, then, that out of the thousands upon thousands of words that his parents said to him, the only ones Harry will ever remember are their last. They weren’t even addressing their child, but the man who killed them and would eventually kill their son as well, however briefly. In a way, though, they were the most important words the Potters would ever say in front of Harry. After all, what else could they possibly have said that would express their love for him more?

021. Before being told about the prophecy, Lily wrote her sister to tell her she was pregnant.

Petunia, who was already ten weeks into her own pregnancy at the time, was put into a very bad mood. For three hours, the only words Vernon could get from her were, “Of bloody course she is.”

020. Dudley Dursley’s first five words were variants of “no” and “mine.”

Portkey to the Past is a Marauder’s Era, tumblr-based roleplay set in the Marauders’ seventh year at Hogwarts. We’ve only recently started, and we have great things planned for the near future. Characters like Peter Pettigrew, Mary Macdonald, and Caradoc Dearborn are open—as well as a whole slew of Slytherins, and many more canon contemporaries of the Marauders and Co. as well. So check us out.

019. Lily and James were confused when Sirius responded to the announcement that they were dating by swearing and handing a few galleons to a smug Remus.

018. For twelve years, Peter Pettigrew told himself that his betrayal was justified because Voldemort’s demise came about as a result of it.

He told himself that James and Lily would ultimately have forgiven him because of that—after all, they had been working towards that goal themselves while they were alive.

It wasn’t until he saw Remus Lupin, looking completely alone and dejected, in that train compartment on the Hogwarts Express with Harry, Ron, and Hermione all those years later that he realized what a load of bollocks that was.

017. Lily might have sent Petunia Harry’s birth announcement, but she didn’t know that Petunia had Dudley until Petunia mentioned it offhand in the letter that went with the vase she sent the Potters for Christmas.

It was at that point that Lily finally gave up trying to make amends with her sister until they could leave the house in Godric’s Hollow and she could go see her alone.

016. During Lily’s first year at Hogwarts, Mr. and Mrs. Evans had to come in and have a conference with Petunia’s teacher.

They were reading Macbeth aloud in class, and Petunia had thrown a fit and started crying when she was assigned to read the lines of one of the witches, repeating “It’s not fair” over and over again.

015. After James and Lily went into hiding, they would sometimes pass the time by talking about what they would do after the war was over.

James was going to be a star Chaser for a professional Quidditch team. Lily was going to take Slughorn up on his offer to get her a job as a Healer-in-Training at St. Mungo’s. Then James would say that she could be the Healer for his Quidditch team, and Lily would laugh and say that she would go insane if she had to see his Quidditch injuries all the time.

Then they would look at Harry and try to guess what he would be when he grew up. James insisted that he would be a Quidditch player as well, and Lily said that under no circumstance would she live with two Quidditch players, because then nothing else would ever be discussed and she wouldn’t get a word in edgewise. She liked to think he would get a job in the Ministry. James said that that was the most boring thing he could think of.

The one thing they agreed on was that they would be moving out of Godric’s Hollow as soon as they got the chance. As nice as it was, they needed to go somewhere—anywhere—else after being stuck inside that house for so long.

014. Sirius and Lily were both very wary of each other when James and Lily first started dating and would often argue and fight, so James asked them (or in Sirius’s case, forced him) to go on what he called “friend dates.”

Unfortunately for James, these worked in a way he hadn’t expected:  Sirius and Lily bonded by swapping embarrassing stories about him. They would eventually become very good friends, but James would never live down some of those stories.

head canons galore

Just a little blog for me to keep track of all my head canons without annoying my followers on my personal. The vast majority of these will center around the Harry Potter fandom, primarily Marauder's Era with the possibility of some Trio Era or Riddle era head canons as well.

DISCLAIMER: Obviously I am not claiming that these are canon. I'll always try to make sure they don't negate canon, but they are not canon, so please don't message me telling me that none of this happened in the series. That's kind of the point.

Oh, also, many of these will be Lily-centric, as I currently roleplay as Lily and am frequently thinking of her characterization.
